Everything You Need to Know About Henna Brows

Henna brows are a natural alternative to traditional eyebrow coloring, lasting up to 6-8 weeks.

As spa professionals, we have been offering professional henna brow tinting to our clients for years and, after becoming frustrated that we couldn’t find a henna brow product we loved, we created our own proprietary henna brow tint called Henna Bee.

Through our experience with Henna Bee, we have outlined the top FAQs we receive from potential henna brow clients and fellow spa professionals considering adding Henna Bee eyebrow tint service to their roster.

What are henna brows and why is it better than a traditional eyebrow tint?

Henna brows are a natural alternative to traditional eyebrow coloring. Traditional eyebrow tints are primarily made of harsh chemicals while most henna brow products are made of natural plant-based ingredients including Lewsonia Insermis aka – henna plant, a flowering plant commonly used to dye skin, hair, and fingernails since ancient Egyptian times.

With a henna brow product, like Henna Bee, you are getting a product that is made with 75% plant-based ingredients, contains no lead or ammonia, is vegan-friendly, and requires no chemicals or oxidants to activate, only hot water. This means it’s safer for clients AND for spa professionals.

Plus, unlike traditional chemical-based tints that dry out or damage eyebrows, henna brows coat the brow hair locking in moisture and keeping hair healthy and hydrated which often encourages hair growth and a perfect brow shape.

One of the other key benefits of henna brows compared to a regular tint is the fact that henna brows not only dye the eyebrow hair but also stain the skin beneath leading to perfect brows! The henna stain on the skin acts as a great brow filler but it's important to keep in mind the duration of the henna stain really depends on a client's skin type. With dryer skin the tint will last longer compared to oily skin

Will henna brows turn my eyebrows a reddish-brown?

You’re probably familiar with henna body art, also known as Mehndi, used in many ancient traditions. The henna dye stains the skin orange to start and darkens over days to a deep reddish-brown due to oxidation.

But fear not, by using high-quality henna brow products like Henna Bee your eyebrows will not turn bright orange or change color over time. With Henna Bee our formula includes other plant-based ingredients including Cassia Obovata and Indigofera Tinctoria which work alongside the henna to ensure consistent colors that do not oxidize over time. Your eyebrows will remain true to color.

With Henna Bee we have six colors available with warm, or cool tones designed to match any complexion or brow color. You can also mix colors to create the perfect shade for any client!

How long do henna brows last?

One of the major benefits of henna brows is that the tint lasts much longer on the hair than traditional tints! With henna brow tint the brow hair will stay tinted for 6-8 weeks compared to less than 4 weeks with regular brow tints.

The stain on the skin from henna brow tints can last from a few days up to a week depending on the client's skin type. Clients with oily complexions or in humid climates may find the stain on the skin does not last as long due to the fact their skin will not hold onto the dye for as long. Typically the drier the skin the longer it will hold onto the colour.

While we love the fact henna stains the skin the true benefit of henna brows is that it is a far superior eyebrow tint. Henna brow tint is healthier for brows, encourages growth, provides beautiful natural colour coverage and the tint on the brow hair lasts for 6-8 weeks, twice as long as traditional tints.

Will henna brow tint cover grey hairs or coarse white hairs?

YES, IT DOES! Due to its unique formulation henna tint coats the hair which allows it to cover up those pesky greys, sparse brows or irritating, stubborn coarse white hairs!

Traditional tints are different in they penetrate the hair and with grey or coarse white hairs they are unable to truly dye the hair.

How long is a henna brow service?

A standard henna brow service with Henna Bee takes less than 30 minutes! Plus, with our formula, you can pair a Henna Bee eyebrow tint with a brow lamination service and give your clients a total eyebrow transformation in just 30 minutes!

Is brow henna easy to use?

Not every henna brow product is created equal, but Henna Bee is designed to be incredibly easy for spa professionals to use. All you need is hot water to activate the product plus a cotton pad & warm water to remove it.

You can access our free Henna Bee training videos in the Bee Hive our online support hub to see how easy a Henna Bee application is!

Who is a henna brow service good for?

One of the best things about a henna brow service is that it’s a great service for almost everyone! From old to young, to clients with lots, or little hair, henna brows are a great non-invasive, non-permanent eyebrow coloring solution for anyone.

The only people we don’t recommend a henna brow service for is anyone with broken skin or skin disorders near the eyebrow, G6PD deficiency, or Seborrheic dermatitis.

For customers with sensitive skin, we recommend conducting a patch test 24 hours prior to service to ensure no sensitivities. However, we have yet to come across any clients who had a negative reaction to a Henna Bee eyebrow tinting service.

I provide microblading to my clients, why would I also offer henna brows?

We often call henna brows the gateway to microblading as it gives clients a chance to get used to a new eyebrow look before committing to the microblading procedure.

We also find many clients who are nearing the end of their microblading procedure use henna brows as a way to fill in their brows until their next touch-up.

Learn more about how microblading and henna brows can actually work together at the same spa in our article Henna Brows vs Microblading.

What is the best henna eyebrow tint?

As mentioned above, not all henna brow products are equal. Before we created Henna Bee we tested many different henna eyebrow kits with our clients and we could not find one that we liked, in fact, one of the products we used did not even contain henna!

Through our frustration, we worked directly with a supplier in India to create, in our opinion, the best henna eyebrow formula available, Henna Bee. We have six colors available and you can easily mix colors to match any client’s skin complexion.

I need a DIY permanent eyebrow dye I can use at home as I am mostly housebound and cannot tolerate in shop treatments. I am 75, my hair almost white and my eyebrows are black and grey. Do you sell any DIY dyes? Ive used 1000 Hour in the past but it doesn’t seem to take. Otherwise can you recommend one?
Also I always thought henna was red!
Thanks.
